Hi, I'm Jun.
I'm the founder and master sharpener at Butter Shears. My wife Kara and I run this business together, and it's family-owned from top to bottom.
I got into shears through sharpening. Our team services hundreds of hair pros across Utah every quarter, which means thousands of shears have crossed my bench. Every brand, every steel, every edge type. When you sharpen that many shears, you learn something most retailers never will: how a shear actually holds up after two, five, ten years of daily cutting.
That's why we partnered with Above Shears.
Before we ever sold a single pair, we sharpened them. We watched how the AG16 Cobalt Japanese steel held its edge between services. We saw how the tension systems and handles held up in the hands of working barbers and stylists. Above earned its place with us the hard way, through years of real-world use, not a catalog page.
Most online shear shops have never sharpened the products they sell. We service ours for a living. So when we recommend a shear, it's because we know exactly how it performs on day one and on day one thousand.
If you're not sure which shear fits how you cut, start with the Shear Match Quiz. It takes about a minute and matches you based on your cutting style, hand size, and the work you do most.
Or if you'd rather browse, you can shop all shears here.
Either way, if you ever have a question about steel, tension, or which edge is right for you, reach out. Talking shears is my favorite part of the job.
