1. What does Butter Shears sell?
We wholesale professional hair cutting shears made with AG16 cobalt steel, built to hold an edge for 400+ hours between sharpenings. We also run a mobile sharpening service and membership for hair pros in Utah County and Salt Lake County. Whether you need a new pair of shears or want your current ones brought back to life, that's what we do.
2. How do I find the right shear for me?

3. Does Butter Shears have a discount code?
Yes. New customers can save 10% on their first shear with code NEWSHEAR at checkout. We built Butter Shears around real steel and real craftsmanship, so the discount is there to help you try it, not to replace the value of what you're getting.
4. What if my shears don't work out?
You have 30 days to try your shears. If they're not right for you, return them for a refund minus a 5% restocking fee.
5. Do you offer a warranty?
Yes, your shears come with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty. It covers anything that's on us, any defect in the shear itself. It does not cover damage from another sharpener's work or from misuse.
6. Why are there small hairs on my brand new shears?
Every pair of shears we ship goes through a hands-on quality check before it leaves our shop, and that check includes test cuts on real hair to confirm the blade is cutting clean and the tension is right. It's normal to find a few small hairs on a brand new pair for that reason. It's a sign the shear was checked by hand, not a sign it's used.
7. Do my shears come with oil?
Your shears do not come with a bottle of oil in the box. I recommend picking up a shear oil and using a drop on the pivot regularly to keep your blades running smooth.
If you received one of our printed inserts showing a bottle of oil, that's on us to fix. We used to include oil with every order, but it was leaking in transit and damaging packaging, so we discontinued it. Our updated inserts (without the oil image) are printed and will be in circulation starting January. Until then, please disregard any oil shown on the printed materials.

8. Do you offer shear sharpening?
Yes. Beyond selling shears, we run a mobile sharpening service in Utah County and Salt Lake County, plus a quarterly membership that keeps your shears razor-sharp year-round.
9. How does the Butter Shears Membership work?
Our Butter Shears Membership is a quarterly subscription that keeps your shears razor-sharp and ready to perform. For just $40 every 3 months, you receive:
- On-site sharpening every quarter (4x/year)
- A professional, 12-step sharpening method
- 30-minute turnaround at your salon or studio
- Access to priority scheduling

10. Is sharpening only available in Utah?
Yes, we currently offer mobile on-site shear sharpening in Salt Lake County and Utah County only. If you're outside these areas, click here for a mail-in sharpening.
11. How much does one-time sharpening cost?
A one-time shear sharpening service is $50, which includes:
- Our signature 12-step sharpening method
- On-site service at your location
- A sharpness guaranteeβif it's not right, we'll fix it
But when you do a one-time sharpening instead of a membership, you are missing the 20% membership discount. It's a higher price because we are often fixing other sharpeners' work instead of resharpening our own, which is a lot more straightforward.

12. What's the difference between one-time sharpening and the membership?

13. What else do you sharpen?
We only sharpen professional-grade hair cutting shears, including:
- Japanese and convex edge shears
- Texturizers and thinners
- Barber shears
- Curved and specialty blades

14. How do I schedule my sharpening?
After purchase or membership signup, we'll reach out via text with several appointment times for you to choose between. Our team comes directly to your salon or barbershop. Most appointments take just 30 minutes.
15. Do I need to be present during the sharpening?
Nope. If you're not in, you can leave your shears at the front desk or somewhere we can find them. Most hair pros work while we sharpen. We provide loaner shears for you to use while we have yours.
16. Can I cancel my membership anytime?
Yes, you can cancel anytime before your next renewal. No hidden fees or commitments. We're here to make your life easier, not trickier.
